HOUSTON, TX, September, 16, 2011 – One of the few new things we’ll be doing here in the near future rather than just give our own opinions for you to dissect is asking our very own readers / fight fans here in TEXAS to give us their own thoughts on upcoming fights. It’ll be a great way to get an outside opinion to provide analysis and expertise into these events.
Today, we reach out to Joseph Colunga, a U.S. Army vet, aspiring writer, and big-time fight fan from Houston to give us his thoughts on a matchup of his choosing for tonight’s Legacy Fighting Championship 8 event on HDNet.

Fan Perspective on Legacy FC 8 Main Event: Spratt versus Macaco
Legacy promoters have once again managed to provide us fight fans with another stacked card with this edition of the Legacy Fighting Championship.
There are a lot of excellent matchups on tap for tonight but my focus but for this, I want to focus on a main event title match featuring two veterans in Jorge “Macaco” Patino and Pete Spratt.
I remember Pete’s last visit to Houston, when he lefts fans in awe with a jaw-dropping 25-second knockout win over Antonio Flores. I remember before that bout, Antonio won with a 26-second KO himself over Brandon McDowell so I’m sure a lot of people were expect a repeat. They just didn’t expect it to go the other way. Maybe we all should have been wiser. Pete Spratt has been a Muay Thai juggernaut at a very high level of competition for many years now. Even his losses say something about him. Dropping bouts to the likes of Newton, GSP, Lytle and Koscheck is not exactly a shameful experience. On the other hand, he’s beaten guys like Robbie Lawler. Plus, from what I’ve heard, he’s worked hard on his submissions lately. The only question is if that’s enough to keep Macaco off of him.
Speaking of Jorge “Macaco” Patino, this is a fighter that comes what I like to think of as the golden era of the sport. You know, those pre-Vegas days before MMA was on TV and everything was wearing all these shiny shirts around with skinny jeans and tattoos trying to look like a baddass fighter. Patino fought way back in 1995 and has a record that contains names like Pele, Militech, Souza and Roan Carneiro. At the very least, I’m sure he can provide “the secret weapon” with a fight of the night… However his last visit to Houston was not so great for him. That 3rd round loss to Andre Galvao sticks in my mind. He came back to beat Cleburn Walker in Austin this past April and is definitely a force to be reckoned with. He has a 50% ratio of submission wins to his name alone on top of many TKO’s. As far as different ways to win, he may have the edge over his opponent.
However which way the cookie crumbles, it is going to be a contest of two top level martial artists performing LIVE on HD Net. Two men with track records of classic battles and two with the heart to provide us fight fans with the fight of the night. I am foreseeing it going the distance, but I think both these combatants have other plans in mind. There are going to be takedowns, elbows, knees and submission attempts. With that, there will also be a clash of styles from both competitors and we all know styles make fights. I really believe this fight should leave us on the edge off our seats the whole time.
As far as predictions go, I’ll go ahead and put this out there… I believe that Pete “The Secret Weapon” Spratt with all his experience should be able to handle the tenacious Patino. Don’t get me wrong, “Macaco” is the real deal and has an aggressive ground game that Spratt should be vigilant against but I think he can pull off the victory!
