XKO 12 Interview – Roy Spoon Ready for Main Event Fight in Arlington

DALLAS, TX, August 29, 2011 – It’s fight week in the DFW area as Xtreme Knockout takes over Arlington for the 12th time this Saturday, September 3rd! This time around, XKO 12 features a very exciting card headlined by a very exciting fight when the always-game Dallas Jawbreaker Roy Spoon takes on undoubtedly one of his most experienced opponents yet in Anthony Macias.

We took a moment to chat with Roy Spoon prior to this Friday’s main event to get his thoughts on the fight.

Hi Roy. The last time we spoke to you was right before your win over Brandon Smith at XKO 10. Take us through that fight before we move on to the next one.

It went how I thought it would. I knew he was tough and it was gunna be a battle that ended with both us hurting but me with the W.

What have you been up to since that fight?

Training and looking for a new challenge.

You’re now 6-3 and fighting in the main event of a card that should be televised at TXA-21. Everyone wants to get into the UFC but what are your goals for the near future as far as your MMA career goes?

Keep fighting good fighters and earn my way to the UFC. Too many fighters try and pad their record I’m not one. I feel if I’m going to make it, it will be by beating the best out there. When I get to that level I’m going to be ready. If you got two pit bulls fighting one has fought other pits the other has fought poodles it will show lol…

You’ll be fighting Anthony Macias this Saturday at XKO 12. What do you know about him?

A lot. I’ve watched the guy fight since I was a youngster. Slick ground game good stand up and lots of fights.

It looks like your opponent has a ton of fights, having beating Shonie Carter, etc. Does his experience play a factor into your mindset approaching this fight?

Yes sir you have to respect the man for what he has done and changed my training accordingly.

What’s your training regimen like? Who do you train with and what do you to prepare for this one?

Grueling run in the morning, followed by strength and conditioning class. Go to work get off go to Octagon spar with some of Texas best pro fighters Clay Hantz, Russell Brewer, Quaint Kempf. Then meet up with the Jaw Breakers get my work in with Alex Melendez, Bobby Moore and Brad Mitchell.

Without giving your entire gameplan away, how do you plan on winning this fight specifically?

Pressure!

If you had to give last words to your opponent before this fight, what would you tell him?

Thank you for this opportunity.

What’s next for you after this fight?

Who knows??? I plan on making a statement in this fight so after we will just wait and see.

Any last words? Anybody you want to thank?

I want to thank everyone who supports me time and time again. TXMMA, Justin Bowden Fitness, Fear Tapping Out, Theplatnuimplumbing.net, Last round Nutrition, City Blends, Planet beachcontempo spa, Buff water, Dallas Jawbreakers and most importantly Octagon MMA.
