TXMMA Technique of the Week – BJJ Legend Carlos Machado Demonstrates a Sneaky Bat Choke

DALLAS, TX, June 4, 2011 – it’s time for another technique of the week and this time we’re taking you closer to the source by featuring none other than 8th Degree BJJ Master Carlos Machado, and head instructor of RCJ Machado Jiu-Jitsu in Farmers Branch and the very first black belt to teach in Texas.

The eldest the Machado brothers, Carlos (along with his brothers Roger, Rigan, and John Jacques) has been involved in the ‘gentle art’ for over forty years. As nephews of BJJ originator Carlos Gracie, the Machado brothers began studying Jiu-Jitsu when the art was at its infancy. In fact, they learned under some of the greatest legends of the time – men like Carlson, Rolls, and Rickson.

Moving to the Dallas area in 1995 to open his school and spreading the teachings of BJJ in the Lone Star state ever since, Carlos remains pivotal as a guiding light and mentor to many in the Texas Grappling Community.

In this short instructional video, Carlos works with 2nd Degree BJJ Black Belt William Vandry and the students at his school in Austin to demonstrate a a baseball choke variation using a Brabo setup with the lapel instead of the collar. Check it out and let us know what you think!
