LUFKIN, TX, July 07, 2011 – July is a busy month in Texas MMA with promotions in several different cities hosting some HUGE shows. At TXMMA.com, we’re aiming to capture as much information as we can in order to bring our readers the very best and most in-depth coverage of the state’s fight scene.  From analysis of fight cards and post-fight recaps to in-depth interviews with fighters all over these cards, we want YOU to have all this right at your fingertips so you can tell your friends about the fights and help us GROW TEXAS MMA.

Read on and get to know Jay Flores.

Thanks for taking the interview on your way to Shark Fights 17. How do you feel heading up to this fight?

Not a problem Mike! I feel really good for this match, I’m hungry. There was a standstill to where I couldn’t find a fight for a while. So I’m coming in motivated and hungry for the win!

A lot of our readers may not have seen you fight yet. Can you tell them a little about your MMA background?

Well, I’m mainly a striker, but I work my wrestling a lot. I have an awesome set of coaches and teammates that push me to the limits and then some!!! I train out of The Agoge and AFS from Lufkin, TX, but I’ll make a trip to other cities to get a different feel for things. I’ve been training for about three-and-a-half years now but I didn’t take it seriously until my second year in. The bug bit me. <laughs> I just jumped into it. I’ve always liked boxing, so I figured I’d try it and mix it up with BJJ and some wrestling, and I’ve been hooked since!

How would you describe your style as a fighter?

Patient. Fast. Motivated. I’m always trying to learn something new!!! I’m in the gym after work and on my days off. I think they get tired of seeing me sometimes.

What about outside the cage – what fills your time when you’re not training?

I’m always doing something outdoors. It’s relaxing, ya know? Hunting, fishing, going to the beach, and my new love, extreme mountain biking!!! That stuff is intense!!!

Anything else you’d like to share or fans should know about you?

I’m the nicest guy you’ll ever meet!! I’m really a goof off!

In your next fight at Shark Fights 17,  you’ll be taking on Matt Hobar. What do you know about him?

Not really much, but I’m prepared to fight wherever it goes. I don’t look past any of my opponents. I train one fight at a time.

What are you doing to prepare specifically for this fight?

Everything and anything!! Boxing, BJJ, wrestling, and some hardcore strength and conditioning. Like I said earlier, I’m ready for wherever this fight will go!

Care to give a prediction on how the fight will end?

A fight’s a fight. Anything can happen, but I’ll be fighting until my hand is raised.

What’s next for you in 2011 after Shark Fights 17?

Hopefully some more fights!!! No breaks. I’ll be back in the gym.

Anything else you’d like to share before the fight?

I’m going out there for the WIN.  …and I’ve never done an interview before…… this is pretty cool!

Anybody you’d like to thank that’s helped you get ready?

I want to thank God for giving me this awesome opportunity!!! My Family and friends for the support and of course, all of my teammates!!! I wouldn’t have gotten this far without you guys!!  Oh and Faction Mouthguards for that kick ass mouthpiece they got me!
