Houston Grand Prix BJJ Championship – Instructor Superfight Preview for Jeff Messina vs. Alejandro Siqueira

UPDATE – This Super Fight is now CANCELLED due to a last-minute injury sustained to Alejandro Siqueira.

HOUSTON, TX, July 7, 2011 – Elbert Hebron’s Grand Prix Grappling is back with Saturday July 9, 2011 with the Houston Grand Prix Jiu Jitsu Championship, set for Humble High School starting at about 9:30AM.

While BJJ / grappling fans can expect the usual run of high-level competitors from around the city on the mats in Houston for the first time since June 18th, one of the highlights of the day will also be in the form of a high-level instructor superfight between Alejandro Siqueira of Gracie Barra Champions Forrest and Jeff Messina of Revolution Dojo out in Katy.

Let’s take a quick look at the competitors of this matchups  in further detail.

Jeff Messina (BJJ Revolution)

Originally starting in MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu almost fifteen years ago, Jeff Messina is a BJJ black belt under Rodrigo Medeiros and head instructor of Houston’s BJJ Revolution Team. Competing since 1999, Jeff’s accolades include medals at all levels, including a bronze medal finish at 2010 Pan Ams to go along with medal finishes at competitions hosted by the IBJJF, Grappler’s Quest, etc. As head coach of his team, Jeff is known for the intensity he displays at tournaments and he’ll look to translate that same intensity into a win this Saturday.

Alejandro Siqueira (Gracie Barra)

Currently training and teaching out of Gracie Barra Champions Forrest, Alejandro Siqueira is a decorated world champion and has claimed the title of Brazilian national champion seven times to go along with his three NAGA titles. Locally, Siqueira is best known in for winning the black belt division at the 2009 Atama Open and being active imparting his knowledge as an official referee at many of the city’s local tournaments. Getting back on the mats this Saturday, Siqueira will look to translate that knowledge on the mats himself as he goes for the victory.
