The Cage Combat 4 Breakdown – Full Results, Top Headlines, and Event Photos!

HUMBLE, TX, July 02, 2011 – What a show last night at the Humble Civic Center! As far as exciting fights go, Cage Combat 4 delivered as a new champion was crowned while many other fighters impressed in amateur action. Without further adieu, let’s go through the main headlines from the event!

Jacob Silva Wins Garcia Promotions Flyweight Title

The main event of the evening featured a flyweight tilt between Bushi Ban’s Manny “El Animal” Lozoya taking on Silverback Fight Club’s Jacob Silva for the inaugural Garcia Promotions Flyweight Championship.

Relentless from start to finish, Jacob Silva (otherwise known as “Little Animal”) proved to be worthy of his nickname as he pressed “El Animal” (no relation) from the opening bell to the final one. Silva was dominant in winning title, never letting his opponent get into a rhythm by applying relentless pressure and controlling the action on the ground, achieving mount and taking Manny’s back several times throughout three rounds of action. With this win, Silva gains his first amateur title while avenging the recent defeat of his teammate David Armas. Perhaps most impressive about this victory was Silva’s endless gas tank. Seriously, this kid never gets tired. With a little more polish, look for Silva to start making even more waves at this weight en route to the pros.

David Armas Squeezes by Andrew Musquiz via Split Decision

In the co-main event of the evening, the crowd at the Humble Civic Center saw a back-and-forth battle between David Armas (Silverback) and Andrew Musquiz (Team Tooke) that I would certainly characterize as the unequivocal fight of the night. “The Punisher” threatened throughout the three-round battle with a bevy of submission attempts including an omo plata, several armbars, and a d’arce choke while David was able to secure top position and land several stiff punches on his feet including a wicked uppercut in the second round. In the end, the difference proved to be who controlled the top position as the judges scored the bout in favor of David Armas. With this victory, the Silverback fighter will now move on to the professional ranks on July 22nd when he takes on Shelby Sheehan at Legacy FC.

Levi West Wins Going Away in Dominant Fashion

The Houston fight community heard much less pre-fight talk from “2 Fly” Levi West (Team Tooke) as he preferred to make all his statements in the cage this time around, winning convincingly over Eric Thompson (Silverback) in a bout that saw Levi showcase his boxing skills – from hand speed and footwork to active head movement defensively. When fight time was said and done, it was obvious that time spent at Jackson’s MMA along with coach Jace Pitre and the staff at Team Tooke created a much improved Levi West as he executed a brilliant game plan to nullify everything his opponent tried to muster against him, specifically in the clinch. Be on the lookout for more from Levi in the near future as he takes on 4OZ Fighter Kevin Thomas in his next bout.

Furious and Fantastic Finishes Complete the CC4 Card

Elsewhere on the card, a quintet of the night’s amateur fighters were able to score victory with a flourish. The two most significant exclamation points on the night have to go James “Tank” Gonzales (Silverback) and Nathan Flack (Team Bailout). The pair hit their opponents so ferociously that they were out before they hit the floor.

Speaking of which, Charley “Platypus” Witbeck (4OZ) and Ryan Rivera (Team Bailout) represented well with a pair of rear-naked-chokes to finish their own opponents before it got to the judges scorecards, as did Carlos Jimenez who won via referee stoppage. Rounding out the card were decision victories for Jeremy Hunter, Tony Orozco Jr, and John Rodriguez. Great job to everyone who competed on the night!
