ODESSA, TX, June 24, 2011 – Fighting on the main card of Shark Fights 16 tomorrow night, (Anselmo) Luis Luna has long been a mainstay on the West Texas fight circuit. Spending the majority of his career fighting around the Texas Panhandle, including four previous bouts for the Shark Fights promotion, he will definitely be looked at as a hometown favorite in Odessa tomorrow night.

Coming off two wins in a row, Luna will be taking on Danny Salinas, an 8-2 fighter hailing from the Corpus Christie/Edinburg area. On the eve of fight night, we spoke to Luna to get his thoughts heading into Shark Fights 16.

Luis, thanks for taking the interview with TXMMA.com immediately before your fight. How are you feeling heading into Shark Fights 16?

I’m feeling great. Had a good camp, got a lot done, real excited about facing this style of fighter, and feeling good and ready to go as always.

Where have you been training for this one?

I’ve been off and on with my team here at Jackson’s MMA and my team back home (Seminole, TX) at Warrior Elite.

You’ve been fighting for a few years now. What type of fighter would you describe yourself as?

I’m a “whoop-ass” style fighter. I’ve never really done any type of boxing, wrestling, karate or nothing [sic] like that. My main objective is go in there and whoop the guy’s ass and that’s the way I get it done, you know.

You’re coming off a win over Cody Pfister in your last fight in the 24/7 promotion. What are your thoughts from that night?

Really, I think Cody Pfister is a p&$*# and he just hugged me the whole fifteen minutes. Before the fight, he made a big deal like he wanted to fight and I thought in the fight that I was having trouble but then I watched the video and now I see what he was trying to do and I don’t think he ever wanted to fight me. I mean, I just have nothing good to say about him. I’m just kind of upset that he’s getting shots from people like Shark Fights and he’s to come up off a guy like me but he didn’t really want to fight me. He was just trying to hug me and win off wrestling points.

Who’s been the most challenging fighter you’ve faced so far in your career?

I would say Derek Campos, man. The second fight. I know he had it out (for me) since we fought as amateurs. He was coming to get me in that one. He’s a pretty good guy, you know what I’m sayin’. I think we think match up almost perfectly even. I’m just waiting for my opportunity to get my rematch since I gave him his. Now he needs to give me mine.

Your fight tomorrow night against Danny Salinas – What do you know about him?

I do not know much about Danny Salinas. I hear he’s a good boxer and apparently, he’s a tough guy. He’s got a better record than mine so that’s good. I’m just looking to come up and fight guys that are good and have good records so he’s who they (Shark Fights) matched me up with.

How do you see yourself getting the victory in this one?

I just see me doing what I have to do to win. That’s the way I fight so that’s the only thing I’m thinking. No predictions at all. Just do what it takes to win.

Do you have any plans for your career after Saturday night’s fight?

I’m just taking it step by step. Right now it looks like I’m going to be fighting around the West Texas area. That’s where I’m known and that’s where I get my best offers so until the big leagues call, I’m going to be holding it down for my hometown around here.

Do you have anything to say to your opponent before Shark Fights 16 tomorrow?

Just that he better come ready. He’s coming into my territory and he knows it. This is his one shot and that’s it. Then he’ll take a nap.

Any last words?

Thanks for all the support in the past. I appreciate it and I promise to give it my all every time I’m there and hopefully you guys continue to support me like you have in the past.
