Breaking News: Angel Huerta to take on Steve Garcia for Legacy 135 Title on July 16th Show!

May 16, 2011 – In a message to fans earlier, popular Houston fighter Angel Huerta instructed his followers to save a very special date on their calendars.

“July 16 I will be fighting Steve Garcia for the Legacy Fighting Championship 135lb Title Belt,” said Angel in an announcement that brings together two of most feared bantamweights in Houston and all of Texas.

While a few detailed have to be ironed out before this bout is announced official by the Legacy promotion, this pairing brings together a matchup that has been called on ever since Huerta burst onto the local MMA scene with a spectacular TKO of Danny Torres at Puro Combate in August 2010.

Since his debut, “The Chosen one” Huerta has been on a tear, winning his next three fights in the Legacy promotion en route to the biggest fight of his career.

According to Angel, he’s ready for the challenges his dangerous experienced opponent will bring.

“I know he (Steve Garcia) is a seasoned veteran,” declared Angel. “He’s a smart fighter who thinks about what he’s doing in the ring. I respect him as a fighter and I’m honored to be fighting for the Legacy Bantamweight title. This fight will be my hardest thus far but I’m ready for the challenge.”

Echoing respect for his opponent, Steve Garcia also shared his own thoughts regarding Angel Huerta and his own preparations to take home the Legacy 135 belt.

“Angel is a good fighter, very skilled, very aggresive, very confinent..and he should be,” says Steve Garcia. “But i can’t dwell on him or his gameplans of the past, I need to make sue that I am 100 percent and ready to do battle, I need to worry about me and my camp doing what needs to be done to grind this out.”

“I’ve been working hard with Daniel and Adam and the 4OZ crew, and will continue to do as planned. I’ve got my boxing coach sharpening my tools, so we will be ready for all out war!”

Pressed further on what it meant to the 32-year-old IV Ounce fighter to get a chance to fight for a title here in Houston, a city where he’s had trouble picking up top fights in the past, Steve says,” I’m going to love fighting for the title in my home town. This is actually my second title shot here. I lost the first one with Snyder so I’m looking to capitalize on this one for sure.”

Regarding how he thinks this fight will go, Garcia’s thoughts go line-in-line with what most of Houston’s fans should be thinking when it comes to this fight.

“I think it’s gonna be a good standup battle. We both have good standup. He’s light on his feet and he’s not scared to bang. Me neither. That goes right with my plan too. It’ll be my hands versus his hands and feet.”

Judging by those sentiments along with their past performances, fans should make sure not to blink come July 16th at the Arena Theater.
