Mark Hominick Defies All the Odds; Knocks Out José Aldo in the Brazilian’s Return Bout

Originally supposed to make his UFC debut this past November against Josh Grispi before getting delayed due to injury, José Aldo will no doubt be one of the more anticipated attractions featured at UFC 129.

Prior to making his way over, the last man to hold the WEC featherweight belt was on an unheard-of tear in the WEC, finishing such fighters like Urijah Faber, Matt Brown, Manny Gamburyan, Alexandre “Pequeno” Noguiera, and Cub Swanson in devastating fashion.

Now finally set to make his octagon debut tomorrow night, Aldo, now considered one of the top-five pound-for-pound fighters in the world, will be taking on Mark Hominick, a Canadian striking specialist who holds victories over such notables as Jorge Gurgel, Yves Edwards, and Leonard Garcia. Will Aldo be able to use his Muay Thai and BJJ skills to win as expected? Or will the Canadian put a stop to the hype train on his home soil?

Randy Couture Defies Father Time Yet Again to Defeat Lyoto Machida

“The Natural” Randy Couture has made a history of defying the odds through the course of MMA career. Starting way back at UFC 15 in October 1997, the multiple-time UFC champion walked into the octagon as a heavy underdog to Vitor Belfort and defied the odds by finishing the 19-year-old phenom to win the heavyweight tournament.

From there, he went on to defy the odds in epic fashion, coming out of retirement in 2006 to reclaim the heavyweight title as an underdog once again against giant Tim Sylvia. Still not finished, a 45-year-old Randy once again returned to the UFC to take on monsters like Brock Lesnar and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, losing both bouts while putting on a spirited performance.

At that point, everyone though Couture was done but he defied several more times in his latest comeback, winning his last three bouts against Brandon Vera, Mark Coleman, and James Toney.

Now 47 years old, Randy the ‘master strategist’ wants to defy the odds once more by defeating fellow former champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida. With almost fifteen years of MMA experience to go along with his smothering wrestling skills, can he corner the elusive dragon and defy father time once again in one last hurrah at glory? We’ll find out tomorrow night!

Jake Shields Submits Georges St. Pierre to Win the Welterweight Title

Crazier things have happened (read: Matt Serra beating GSP via TKO in Houston) and Jake Shields is, as Joe Rogan would say, a top-of-the-food chain submission grappler. Georges St. Pierre is no doubt on top of the world headed into this fight, having dominated in his last eight bouts, but Jake Shields has been on a similar role, winning his last FIFTEEN bouts since 2005. Georges will likely be able to take Shields down but if top light heavyweights like Phil Davis can’t keep him down in practice, will GSP be able to do so in the cage tomorrow night?
