Pat “The Bison” Bierschwale Ready for Legacy Battle with Patrick “Bam Bam” Hutton this Saturday!

April 5, 2011 – I recently spoke to Pat “The Bison” Bierschwale in preparation for this Saturday’s fight with Patrick “Bam Bam” Hutton at the Legacy Fighting Championship.

A former top Houston area amateur, finishing with a 4-1 record for Mick Maynard’s Lonestar Beatdown promotion (now known as Legacy Amateur Series), Bierschwale will be making his way back to the Arena Theater for his second professional fight after debuting with a win against Jeremy Morris in the IXFA promotion this past February.

Pat, how are you feeling this fight week heading up to the fight this Saturday?

I’m feeling pretty good. I’ve put in all the hard work ever since my last fight so this week is pretty much about cardio, maintaining, and staying sharp. Most of the hard work has been done so this week is just about making sure I stay healthy and keep my cardio up.

Can you take us through your pre-fight preparations?

This one was a little different because I’m going into the fight in-shape because I started preparing directly after my last fight so I didn’t go through those usual first couple of weeks getting into shape. We kinda hit this one running. It’s been good. We’ve been doing lots of boxing and hitting for this one, for Hutton, and also still continuing to work on the ground. Lots of takedown drills and lots of hand drills.

Who are the main guys helping you over at Gracie Barra Westside?

Same guys as usual. You’ve got Alex (Cisne), Terrance (Ferguson), Ryan, and the normal guys in the morning. Coach Ted (Stickel) and Chris, they’ve been working with me a lot and I work with Aaron Pena with my boxing at night. Same good group of guys.

Now this is going to be your second fight as a pro after Jeremy Morris. You think this time out with be easier as opposed to debuting for the first time?

No – no fight is easy. They all have their own obstacles. I was pretty calm for my last fight and I knew I had a solid game plan going in and this fight is the same way. I’ll be pretty calm going into it. A fight’s a fight so there really is nothing difference about this one as opposed to the last one.

How would you describe your upcoming opponent, Patrick Hutton?

Everybody knows he’s got some great hands and lots of power. He’s a big strong guy but I feel I match up well against him because physicality is my strong points also. I like to get in there and muscle around people too so we match well. We’re both big strong guys. If I can get him, then I think I have the advantage and if it stays standing, he has the advantage. It’s going to be a battle of who can control where the fight goes.

And how do you picture this fight going in your head?

I see me going out there, taking him down, controlling it, and looking for the finish.

This is your first time fighting for Legacy’s pro show right? How do feel about this one?

It’s kind of a big deal. I really enjoy fighting for Mick and he puts on a great show. I fought for the Beatdown (Lonestar Beatdown) three times and I told him to schedule me so I could come back home. I really enjoy fighting for Mick and I think he does a great job so I’m thankful for the opportunity.

After this fight, you have anybody in mind as far as who you want to fight next or where you want to take your MMA career?

I’m going to just take it one fight at a time. The rankings and that kind of stuff are good and all but it really doesn’t mean a whole lot until you get the belt so whoever my manager Team B3 puts in front of me or whatever promotion… I’d like to fight at 170 but I’d consider fights at 185 also. There’s not really a fight I’m looking for out there but we’ll just kind of see where it goes.

I’ve got just a few other random questions for you Pat. I see that you’re a big hunter, any big catches you’re proud of this year?

This year was kind of slow but I got my first buck with a bow, a white-tailed buck with a bow so that was my big accomplishment this year. I’ve done bow hunting for a couple of years but never gotten to take one so I was pretty proud about that.

If we asked your wife to describe you, what kind of person would she say Pat is?

Ahh… I’m at a loss. <laughs> It probably would depend if I made her mad that day or not but most likely she’d say that I love God and love my family.

Nice. Any last words for your fans?

Hey thank you for your support! Win or lose I’m gonna put on a good show. Also I want to thank Team B3. Ragan and Rich are doing a great job. I want to thank Pinnacle Staffing, who’s my lead sponsor this time and also thank you to all my teammates!
