Legacy Amateur Series: Weigh-In Recap and Pictures

Cody Phillips vs. Austin Franks

In a scene eerily reminiscent of Cairo’s central square on the day Mubarak fell, an endless throng of fighters, supporters, entourage, women, small children, and babies watched in admiration as tomorrow night’s amateur competitors weighed-in for the Legacy Amateur Series amidst a scene adorned with tassled curtains, elaborate columns, and chandeliers.

Seriously the only thing missing were pasties as the packed house of hot and sweaty humans filled the House of Blues’ Foundation Room like it was a gentlemen’s club the week before rent is due. Despite the crowded conditions, the good news is all fourteen paired fighters in attendance made weight for tomorrow’s event.

Unfortunately, as often customary with amateur events and through no fault of the promoter, a few fighters did drop out at the last-minute prior to weigh-ins leaving several fighters without opponents. Most notably, Eric Garcia of Team Tooke and Garcia Promotions along with Angelus McFarlane will unfortunately have to sit this event out. In speaking with a frustrated Garcia, he mentioned that he was going to stick to promoting from now on as the time spent training hard for a fight only to have his opponent drop out was highly frustrating.

Kristy Weighing In

As for as the rest of the fights that will be on the final card, the most notable occurrence came during the weigh-in for one of the three title bouts of the evening. Cody Phillips, recently highlighted for his unfavorable comments towards opponent Austin Franks, made sure the focus was on the fight itself and not words as he donned duct tape over his mouth to prove a point as the two faced off. Seemingly undaunted, Austin largely looked away, not buying into the routine.

In any case, the time for talk is over as all these fighters will hit the cage at the House of Blues tomorrow night beginning at a moved-up time of 7:30pm. Enjoy the pictures and see you at the fights!
