IBJJF Houston International Open – Black Belt Absolute Division Recap and Photos

In a performance surely meant to honor his instructor who is set to open an academy here in Houston, Rilion Gracie student Alexandre Ceconi made an appearance in the Black Belt Open Class of the IBJJF Houston International Open today, winning the gold medal amongst a very competitive lineup of adversaries.

The 2010 World Pro Cup Finals champion and Brazilian National Champion heavyweight Ceconi staved off a very competitive field by beating the likes of 50/50’s Ryan Hall and and Gracie Humaita’s Diego Ferreira en route to the tournament championship. Several other black belts also performed admirably in absolute division action including Daniel “Jacare” Almeida of Nova União, who goes back to the Dallas/Forth Worth area with the bronze medal.

Full results for all IBJJF Houston International Open 2011 are already available here. I’ve already posted photos from the blue belt divisions in my recap of the first day of action. A recap of all other weight divisions from black belt to purple belt will be posted tomorrow as well.

All the videos from this absolute division, and many others from brown belt to blue belt, should be available on my YouTube channel starting tonight until they are all uploaded.

Until then please enjoy this final match between Alexandre Ceconi and Diego Ferreira.
