Sandoval defeats Frey in Steele Cage’s Fight of the Night

STEELE CAGE 3

– by Mike Valentine

Steele Cage 3 had all it promised; a great, slick looking production, big-name star power, and plenty of local favorites. Unfortunately, the co-main event and main event did not go DFW’s way, with Oklahoma’s Joey Gorczynski turning in a dominating performance over NTMMA’s rising star Joe Christoper to win the Steel Cage title. And in what was likely the consensus for fight of the night, Joseph Sandoval fighting out of Bighead MMA in Lubbock waged a war and stunning comeback against Douglas Frey.

Ira Boyd continued his winning ways in Steel Cage by once again bringing Jiu-Jitsu skills to the cage, logging his second straight victory by submission for the promotion.

Fan favorite and UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell was on hand, and graciously shook the hands, signed the memorabilia, and posed for pictures with a seemingly endless throng of those wanting to catch a glimpse of the former Light Heavyweight champion.

The Iceman thanked all the Texas fans for coming out, and Richard Steele and Vice-president of Steel Cage Jeff Zimmerman made a nice presentation to the champ before the main event in front of what looked to be the promotion’s best drawing in Frisco thus far.

Photos of the full event will be coming later in the week right here at TXMMA.com.
