Chris Guillen vs Jeff Linsey: Guillen by unanimous decision
In the first round there were a few stand up exchanges that Guillen clearly
had the upper hand in. Including dropping Lindsey to the mat with a well placed
left. Guillen controlled most of the ground game by passing Lindsey’s guard
multiple times as well. Lindsey did get Guillen’s back a couple times but was
unable to get anything to work. At one point in time Lindsey did get an armbar
that looked to be pretty tight, but they fell through the ropes and were boken
up. In the second and third rounds Guillen controlled the ground game as well as
the striking to earn a unanimous decision victory. On a side note Lindsey looked
to be in poor shape compared to his previous appearances and winded very early.
Danny Gordon vs Chris Easter: Easter via keylock 1st round
This turned out to be the Chris Easter show. Easter is back after his short
hiatus and he’s ready to go. He looked to be in the best sape if his life.
Easter opens thefightby immediately taking Gordon to the mat and mounting him.
Easter then tries a couple unsuccessful forearm chokes while raining down blows
in between. Gordon takes advantage of an off balance Easter and escapes the
mount. Chris Easter immediatly begins attacking the shoulders and arms with
keylock techniques. He uses one to Roll Gordon onto his back and get full mount
once again. He then closes it out quickly with a very hard keylock.
At this point Lisa Hunt enters the ring to announce a $1000 challenge to any
female that can beat her in a boxing match at the next IFA show in Amarillo. You
heard it ladies. 1 grand.
Eric Davila vs Randall Hernandez: Davila unanimous decision This was a very
good fight that was mostly on the feet, with Davila controlling the exchanges
throughout to get the unanimous nod from the judges.
David Davis vs Floyd Edwards: Edwards tko via takedown
In round one they immediatly clinch and go to the mat. After a little bit of
position exchanging Davis gets Edwards in and arm lock and Floyd uses a rope
escape to get out of it. You could see Floyd was disappointed and angry at
himself for getting caught and it showed soon after. As soon as they et again in
the middle of the ring Edwards clinched and did an upper body slam driving Davis
down to the canvas with a thunderous impact. The throw dislocated Davis’
shoulder and he was unable to continue. TKO and congrats to Floyd Edwards for
his first MA fight and a victory.
Eric Payne vs Larry Barthloumu: Payne via armbar
It starts off with a small standing exchange that ends with Payne getting a
takedown to full mount. Barthloumu then proceeds to do the dreaded headlock
technique. I’m sorry to offend here, but how do you close a fight with a
headlock? What are you gonna do noogie him till he taps? They slip into the
ropes and are seperated soon thereafter. Once the fight restarts it is a near
repeat of the first exchange. They trade a few shots and Payne shoots for the
takedown and proceeds to mount and armbar Barthloumu. Payne was looking in game
shape and ready to go. When are we gonna see Payne in some bigger shows? He has
completely dismantled his last few opponents and one of them was Duane Ludwig,
who we all no is no slouch.
Ali Elias vs Adam Johnson: Elias Neckcrank sub
Ali shows he still has what it takes. This fight was spent on the ground with
Ali controlling throughout and closing it out quickly by neckcrank from side
control. Ali announced that this was his last fight and he is going to
concentrate on teaching from here on out. Adam Johnson showed alot of class by
congratulating Ali and admitting he was the better man that night.
Paul Beuntello vs Jimmy Westfall: Buentello TKO
Many of us were worried that Paul was losing his desire to fight. Paul
himself admits he thought about hanging it up after his loss to Nate Schroeder.
He sat down and c=ntemplated it though and decided that to become an A game
fighter he has to train like it. He has since moved to Cali and began training
with some of the best the sport has to offer at American Kickboxing Academy. In
addition to this he has a new sponsorship from a health nutrition suppliment
company that is going to help his training as well. Complete with suppliments
and a full workout plan from A-Z. Look for Paul to become a real killer very
soon.For those worried he has lost the fire, worry not. Buentello came out
pumped up and ready to go. No more wild shots. He was very calculating and
systematically picked Westfall apart from start to finish. Paul picked the shots
he wanted and made them work. Very big props to Jimmy Westfall for taking this
fight and steping up to the plate when so many others would not. I am sure we
will be seeing more from Westfall and his stablemates.
Show notes:
I have to admit, at firt appearance I was worried how IFA was going to turn
out under the new management. But I am here to say they put on an excellent show
and advertised it perfectly drawing about 3000 in attendance. The fans went home
happy as did the fighters. If you are anywhere near the area be sure to check
out the next IFA show in mid November in Lubbock, Texas. The IFA went to great
lengths to work with the boxing commission to further the future of the sport
here in Texas. And the boxing commission was willing to work with them as well.
This brought upon a nice new change to shootfighting here in Texas. Closed fists
to the body. Also when I spoke to a rep from the commission I was told that as
soon as we find a suitable 6oz. glove we could be seeing closed fist all the way
around the board. So cross your fingers and make sure to congratulate Jason Lee
and Lisa Hunt on a well ran show.
