Outlaw MMA entertains ATX with inauguural event at Palmer Events Center
With a tagline like “Save Austin MMA” it is clear what Nick Gonzalez and Ghost Promotions have as their mission: to popularize and invigorate the MMA scene in the state’s most vibrant city. Working in concert with Rock Balboa from the RGV in throwing his first event “Outlaw MMA,” Gonzalez wanted to put his best foot forward but also wanted to let the fans know he (and MMA) are in the ATX to stay.
“I am getting into promoting specifically here in Austin because we don’t have ANY local shows at all. And the few we have had attempt it pretty much killed the scene locally and made it difficult. It’s a complicated market but very open, I’m from here and have been a mainstay locally so why not? I want to give the new generation a local show. Everywhere else they have something, we need it here and being a real fighter for so many years I’ve learned a lot in the business. Now it’s time to apply it and Save Austin MMA.”
Nick hoped to draw from even more experience in addition to his own by working with Balboa and others like former TDLR rep Robert Tapia.
“They’ve been very supportive & after speaking to him (Balboa) about my goals here, he was willing to help out! He’s got a great thing going on Corpus Christi so working with a show that’s producing was key this first time around in Austin. This is a new era and new generation. We’re looking to build our new crop of stars and push them upward from right here in Austin.”
As for the fights themselves, the debut rendition of Outlaw MMA turned out to be a highly entertaining affair. Rather than post results this time, just check out all the fights below.
